Visionspring: See Well, Do Well

As a part of our commitment to responsible production, we regularly visit our maufacturers in order to better understand our supply chain and ensure that the people making our clothing are paid fairly, treated respectfully, and working in safe conditions. On our last trip to India we spent time with Mega Vick Wear and Shahzadi Export, two of the family-owned factories that are responsible for our manufacturing.

While there, members of our design and production teams were honored to help host a workshop bu VisionSpring, a nonprofit healthcare organization that provides affordable vision screening and glasses around the world by partnering with NGO's, social enterprises and private businesses.

The World Health Organization estimates that more than 700 million people in the developing world struggle with vision impairments, and in India alone an estimated 300 million people need eyeglasses. Poor eyesight can hinder a person's daily life including the ability to learn, work and generally move safely throughout their daily lives, but it is usually something that can be easily corrected with the right pair of glasses.

VIsionSpring's services are invaluable in areas where there is no access to regular eye care or even non-presecription reading glasses. During the Mara Hoffman-hosted screening, the organization checked 140 employees and provided 93 pairs of glasses. Of this total, 61% recieved prescription eyeglasses while 39% recieved reading glasses.

VisionSpring was founded in 2001 and has provided 3.2 million pairs of glasses to people around the world.
